This is Funny!

This is kinda funny and it's published in the newspapers. Talking about the best of Singaporean men and the worst of Singaporean women.

The best of Singaporean men and the worst of Singaporean women
by Julian Wong

I honestly don't like Singaporean men very much. They bore me. The majority are so homophobic that they wouldn't even appreciate Sacha Baron Cohen's alter ego, Bruno! Or maybe, it could simply be insecurity arising from the fact that they have on multiple occasions unwittingly exposed themselves to Bruno. Don't know what I'm talking about?

Yet, I do need to credit Singaporean men with a couple of things.

1) Singaporean men are rock steady. Because of the risk-adverse nature of the well-educated, average Singaporean male, he is effectively the financial pillar for any woman and tai-tai's-to-be. Never mind the financial turmoil, he's probably got it all planned and sorted somewhat.

2) Singaporean men are steadfast, loyal and faithful to a cause. Foreign female friends rant and rave about how the Singaporean Joe is ever eager to please. Their Asian roots help - no further for a doting father and family man.

3) Singaporean men are so united. In a relaxed setting, two things effectively bind men here - and that's army talk and soccer talk. I've witnessed so many Singaporean Joes chummying up within minutes of idle banter on these two default topics.

4) Singaporean men respect their elders and tradition. While increasingly local women stray on this, the men remain stalwart.

Moving on, time to get bitchy with the bitches - the worst of Singaporean women. I tend not to develop close relationships with many Singaporean women because their faults repulse me so much.

When you do catch me with female company during the weekends, you'd discover that they aren't local, or they have spent many years abroad, or also hate other Singaporean women with a passion. What's there to dislike? Too much!

1) Sarong Party Girls (SPGS). I was at Attica some weeks back, just tagging along with some friends. I was rolling my eyes over and over again. Local girl after local girl were hurling themselves at Ang Moh men, disregarding the Caucasians' looks and profession. If you think that these SPGs are those who are sexed up, dressed in tight or revealing clothing and beach-tanned, that isn't sot. The SPG mentality is so widespread there is even a SPG in every Plain Jane.

2) The Non-SPGs are unadventurous and boring. They are the "I don't know, anything goes!" type. What's their idea of spending the weekend? Shopping, lying in bed, watching Korean or Japanese soap operas. Ask them out to go for in-line skating, cycling or shooting it out at paintball and they'd talk you out of it.

3) Spineless, shapeless wrecks. She NEVER lives for herself but always about what her boyfriend wants, what her mother wants, father wants, friends want. The biggest irony? Her friends are equally lost! Unlike the robust women from the West, these Vanda Miss Joaquims have no dreams, goals or passions. Oh sorry, I forgot - they do however continually seek out men they can leach inspiration from and direction from. The one time you never want to be close to a Singaporean woman is when she is out of job and bumming. They are just SO DRAINING! At least in Japan, women are domestic lords.

4) Complacent As Hell. The Singaporean woman naturally doesn't give a damn about her appearance, what with all that "if he loves me, he'll accept me for who I am" jazz. To them, getting attached is an excuse to get fat, as is getting hitched, having a baby, or becoming a mom. I know this too well. I live with one, the Monster Mom. Don't blame your husband or boyfriend for the "overtime work" or inordinate amounts of "business travel".

5) They are prissy. Hello? The poor guy's only asking to go out with you. It's not like he's proposing. And where have you been? Reproduction ain't the sole function of sex.

6) Twisted, warped minds. Girls reading this may attest to hating your moms. I wouldn't speak so soon. It's a vicious cycle.

7) Choping seats with tissue paper. Absurd and completely unacceptable.

Kinda clueless

Recently I think market seems to be on the high end already. Right now even though the good news are coming out from US this week, the market seems to react negatively to it. It ignoring the good news and reacting more to the bad news. Correction seems to be coming soon. Indicators for US seems mixed to the downside. But Singapore's stock indicators seem to be pointing to a bullish start for some (probably lagging counters). STI was up today despite the whole world on the red following China's stock market. Very weird........

July inflation rises 1.1%

Get Ready for inflation soon. Oil prices are rising again. But it will remain stable for quite a while. China's factories are still not picking up, so economy is recovering, but won't be that fast.

SINGAPORE'S inflation rose 1.1 per cent in July from June due mainly to higher housing, transport and communication costs.

But compared to a year ago, the consumer price index (CPI) was lower by 0.5 per cent, said the Department of Statistics in a statement on Monday.

And for the first seven months of this year, the CPI was 0.6 per cent higher compared with the same period last year.

Housing cost went up by 3.4 per cent from June as a s a result of higher electricity tariffs and service and conservancy charges as rebates were given in June but not in July.

The 1.1 per cent increase in the costs of transport and communication was attributed largely to higher prices of cars and internet subscription fees.

Excluding accommodation costs, the consumer price index moved up by 0.6 per cent. On a seasonally adjusted basis, the CPI in July was 0.3 per cent higher compared with June.

From a year earlier, food prices, which make up 23 percent of the index, rose 1.3 per cent in July. But transport and communications costs fell 3 per cent, declining for a 10th month amid cheaper gas and automobile prices. Housing slid 1.3 per cent in July, after a 0.7 per cent decline in June.

In a separate statement earlier on Monday, the Department of Statistics said the CPI for general households for the first half year rose by 0.8 per cent compared with a year ago.

The increase was much lower than the 7.1 per cent and 6.0 per cent recorded in the first half and second half of 2008.

Households in the lowest 20 per cent income group faced higher inflation at 1.6 per cent. The middle 60 per cent and top 20 per cent income groups experienced consumer price increases of 0.7 per cent and 0.9 per cent respectively from January to June.

Food prices and accommodation costs were the two main items responsible for the increases in the CPI for all income groups during the first six months.

However, these price increases were moderated by lower petrol and car prices as well as electricity tariffs.

The higher inflation rate experienced by the lowest income group reflected the relatively higher weights of food and accommodation in its CPI basket compared to the other two income groups, said the department.

In contrast, lower prices of petrol and cars - which have higher weights in the CPI baskets of the middle and top income groups - contributed towards the moderation of inflation rates for these groups.

District 9

It was on a Wednesday afternoon, having the boredom sickness again, went out to watch "District 9". There was much advertisement about it recently and it looked really interesting. I shall not spoil much about the film but I would say that it is a film about the evil side of humans and racism, or should I say alienism. From this film you could draw similarities about how weapons of mass destruction are the most profitable trade in the world. People will kill for it. Overall, it is the best film I have ever seen for this summer. Recommended!

Eight reasons why you're still single

From a Straits Times Article:
by Cynthia & Steven Lee

You’re independent, decent-looking and financially stable. You have lots to offer, yet you’re still single.

If you can’t understand why you’ve not found the right person, maybe you’ve been guilty of the classic mistakes many singles make.

See if any of the reasons below describe you perfectly, and perhaps it's time to think about ways to remedy your predicament.

Reason #1: You are as busy as a bee
Your career is your first love, and ambition flows fervently through your veins. You thought you could find a partner after rising to the top of the corporate ladder, but you’ve since realized there is no end to the climb.

Having spent most of your time focusing on getting ahead, you’ve lost sight of your social life and now you have no clue where to begin searching for your life partner. But just remember that you have to make time for the things that matter to you.

Reason #2: You value your independence over being ‘tied down’ by a partner
When you were younger, being single and independent was enticing, as you could do anything you wanted without being accountable to someone else.

But being in a relationship involves plenty of commitment, sacrifice and compromise. Even though you’re probably in the habit of doing things on your own terms, sometimes a little change is good.

Your daily routines are not set in stone; try to let go and be more open to allow someone in. You can invite that special someone into your life and still have your freedom (plus you now have newfound freedom to share transparently and intimately with your partner.)

Reason #3: You don’t try hard enough
Good things in life don’t come for free.

If you’re sitting around the house, moping and waiting for the right person to somehow fall from the sky, your chances of success are slim. It sounds intimidating and stressful, but the more you put yourself out there, the more opportunities you have to meet your ideal match.

Sure, you’ll have to sift through several unlikely candidates before meeting someone with promise, but it’ll be worth it.

When you put in the time and effort to expand your social circle, you’ll find yourself making more friends, and potential prospects will come naturally along the way.

Reason #4: You have high standards that are impossible to meet
If your checklist includes requirements like tall, good-looking, fit, intelligent, charismatic, rich, and with flawless character traits, chances are you’ll be disappointed.

We all want our life partner to be perfect (or as close to perfection as possible), but somewhere along the line we have to admit that it’s unachievable, because no one is perfect.

You don’t have to lower your standards to include everyone on the street, but if you’re too choosy about qualities you’re looking for in a partner, you may be letting the right person slip through your fingers.

Reason #5: You are too afraid to put yourself out there and meet other people
The thought of being vulnerable and opening up to someone else scares you to death.

Our fears include commitment, failure and rejection; you feel self-conscious and lack the confidence to approach others of the opposite sex.

But all you need is to take that first step to meet new people and engage in simple conversation with them. Once you’ve gotten that initial meeting out of the way, things will go smoother and fall into place easily.

Remember, practice makes perfect.

Reason #6: You have turned bitter and cynical after failed past relationships
We’ve all had our hearts broken (sometimes into several pieces), but it is essential to learn from it and move on. You can’t let your negativity affect you when trying to meet new people, because no one wants to be stuck in the presence of a sour puss.

So take some time to let old wounds heal, then leave all that baggage behind and look forward to starting a new, clean slate with someone else.

Reason #7: You have not made an effort to maintain your appearance consistently
Appearances matter. It’s as simple as that.

We may try to convince ourselves to look past the surface and see the beauty that lies within, but if there is no physical chemistry, the relationship will face a challenging start.

That is not to say that you must look perfectly coiffed during every single second of every single day, but at least attempt to look decent and maintain a good appearance consistently whether at work or play.

You never know when you will bump into a potential partner. So put in the effort to learn the art of grooming, ie. wearing the right colour or style that is uniquely you.

Reason #8: You treasure your possessions more than people
We all have things that we love – our favorite pets, computers, cars, TV shows, gadgets, clothes, and the list goes on.

But keep in mind that these are merely material belongings, and cannot substitute for human companionship. So put aside your valuables for at least one day in a week, and step out into the world to give yourself an opportunity to find love.

With all that said, the main thing is to keep an open mind and be receptive to opportunities. Go out and attend social events. Volunteer your service for charities and make no qualms about trying out dating services or professional matchmaking services.

Now that you’re armed with all this knowledge, it’s time to put yourself out there and start to explore.

Recession is Over, But................

Recession is over. Singapore was the first country to be out of recession in July with growth of 20.4% in the 2nd quarter over the 1st. GDP is likely to shrink less for the next year. This followed by recent news of Hong Kong, which is out of recession also. We are the first two countries to be out of recession. Soon, more countries will follow suit. Is this good new? Yes it is as we should be seeing growth......... as a country. But things will not be so good for some time. Expect more retrenchment in the coming months. Why? Being out of recession does not mean no jobs will be lost. Companies lost a hell lot of money in this recession and some are still bleeding. But recovery takes time. We are now experiencing deflation, which is good and bad. Deflation means that things are cheaper than before, which makes us consumers happy. Bad for the companies cause they earn less profit for the same number of products. Just look at the price of oil, cheaper last year right? We can enjoy cheaper airline flights cause of the cheap oil prices. However why our food prices are still so expensive.......... bleah stupid economics.
Once the economy picks up, we WILL experience inflation again. Your bak chor mee will probably soon be $3.50 per bowl instead of $3. Air tickets will be a bit more expensive than the recession period as oil prices are moving up again. Hopefully, it does not lead to SUPER INFLATION. Where this phenomenon cause all prices to be up by many many times.
What shape will this economy be? I think still L shape bah. We will be stagnant for a while until the next big thing. But stock markets may be double or triple U shape.

How to Spot a Gold Digger

Nowadays, love is not that simple as before. Before love, girls want security. And where to look for security? Usually they look at the guy's wealth and assets. I mean, there is no wrong to that. It is the same as men looking to see how pretty and young a woman is.
However there are some bitches who are just so money hungry. And how to spot one? Here are some tips from a newspaper article:

1. She wants to marry. Now. A gold digger for push for marriage fast so that she won't lose out on the opportunity with Mr. Rich.

2. She gives love. Quickly. Want to snag him now? Miss Gold Digger will quickly dish out good old loving for her target to snare him.

3. She plays the role of a good wife. Too soon. She cooks, cleans and washes. She doesn't nag him when he goes out with the guys. Why? So she can show him exactly what a great partner she will be.

4. She makes him pay for everything. Always. Pay for her dinner. Buy her the latest designer bag. Help out with her credit card bill. A gold digger will have no qualms asking him for financial favours. That's what he is for anyway, right?

And there is this website for girls who are looking for rich guys to date.

Zirca

Recently I had quite a low tolerance for boredom. I was probably going to die of boredom at home on a Wednesday evening. However, Erika is just starting her leave and it's a rare chance to meet her out again. So we just hang out as it's ladies night. Initially we stopped at Butter factory, but decided to go Clarke Quay as the crowd seemed to be too young for her picking. Tried Zirca, which I haven't got to chance to visit. But it was quite disappointing as it was not as big as I thought. But at least that night we had spaces to dance rather than being a sandwich. Sigh, after years of not clubbing, I'm just like a little boy tasting his first taste of night life........

Shit, I still look younger than my present age.

P.s I'm still having problems with blogger! Can't upload photos yet.

How to Be Rich

Something's wrong with Blogger these days. I can't format my style of words and can't even upload any photos through blogger cause the buttons just went missing!

Anyway, I attended Joey Yap's Bazi for Wealth seminar. What is it about? It is actually a seminar about knowing your personality, strengths and weakness using an ancient chinese chart called Bazi (八字). What is Bazi? It is a chart based on your birth date which can reveal everything about your life and destiny since the day you were born. Well this may sound superstitious like those fortune telling stuffs, but hey it depends on whether you believe it or not. However, I found it to be the most accurate and least bull shit unlike other astrology methods. The greatest men and kings all used it, why not learn it too?

It was the full day seminar spanning from 10 am to 5 pm, but it was worth the time and money. The seminar emphasized on identifying your strengths and weaknesses, and what kind of person you are. And by knowing these, we can concentrate on our strengths to develop ourselves. Reading personality using Bazi is just barely skimming the surface cause as you go further into it, there are more to reveal like luck cycles. But that's for the professionals to decipher.

Talking about destiny, what everyone wanted to know was,

WILL I BECOME RICH?

The answer is.......................it depends.

Not everyone is born rich nor is going to be rich. It's just fated. From the day you were born, your destiny is fixed. Some were born to be winners and some, losers. But how you lived your life is another thing. Cause though destiny is fixed but there is a slight chance it can be altered. So it's how you live your life.

Nowadays you see many emphasis on entrepreneurship. Even the government is trying to encourage everyone to start their own business. Please don't blindly listen to them. Some of us are successful in running businesses, but many, no matter how hard you tried, just cannot do it. Why? Cause most just do not have the destiny of a businessman.

Even if one is not destined to be a businessman, don't fret. There are other ways of making money. I'm going to reveal one way to be rich:

MARRY TO A RICH GUY OR GIRL LOR

I'm not lying. It's possible! Hahaha!

Of course, the most important thing is to invest in yourself. I'm sure many of the world's richest person has mentioned it many many times.

Love Is Over Rated

A talk with a friend yesterday reminded me of my own past relationship. It made me realized that one should not be care or love your girlfriend too much. Yes, girls always said they wanted nice guys, and when you become that perfect nice guy, they just leave you. How ironic isn't it? Well it could be they feel bored by all the love and care you showered her. In this situation, the result is sudden. It is all lovey dovey until BAM! she wants a breakup. You will never see it coming. L O S E R.

Frankly, I never regretted my love life. It was the happiest part of my life that there was someone who can be intimate with, laugh, talk, play, eat and travel with me. Maybe my only regret was being so far away from you, only to lose you. Or maybe I regretted that I love you too much?

I talked to many girls and discovered an interesting secret. They have fear of marriage. When a couple is in a relationship and the guy starts talking about marriage, BAM! The girl leaves you. Marriage isn't on their minds. What they wanted first? Career? Or just having as much fun as possible? There are many different reasons for every girl. Of course there are girls out there who are just dying to get married!

A friend told me getting a girl is easy. Just have a sense of security and make them laugh. 2 Conditions only! How hard it gets? You will just have to figure it out on your own.

However, a possessive boyfriend deserves to be dumped.

Asian Investment Fair

Went to the Asian Investment Fair at Suntec today, cause they are holding a series of seminars educating about investment and talking about the current economy and what to expect about the upcoming future. Well, there's quite a few companies like Capitaland and Wilmar which you can talk to the people and find out more about their companies. Then there are a number of investment companies and trading account companies which you can approach to open a trading account. Went there about 3 pm jumping from seminar to seminar. There's quite a huge number of people in the seminar rooms that there is not enough space for people to squeeze in. People were spilling out in some seminars! Most of the people there were middle aged couples, grey haired, balding old men, aunties and spinsters, though there were some young people around. I think we still need to be financially educated no matter how young we are. I guess young guys and girls rather spend their money on material things rather than learn about investment and making money. Or is it we are just too poor to start buying stocks? I had to agree stocks are expensive, imagine just having to starve and save for a few months (which I did) just to buy a single cheap stock. Anyway, I like the free gifts! Got a notebook and this GOLD bag! I love the gold bag, it's so...........GOLD!!!

Fragile Hearts

A relationship is like a mirror, once broken, it can never be mended......... When you try picking up the pieces, you'll just cut yourself and get hurt again. Even if one manages to fix it, it will never be the same as before, leaving cracks and lines.

It hurts, it hurts.

People say time will heal all wounds, but they forgot there will always be scars.

How?

Get a new mirror then.

Changi Village

Been to Changi Village for supper last night which I had an experience of looking at Bapoks. Sitting in my friend's car, we drove past those bapoks who are advertising their business along the carpark. I've seen bapoks before, usually you can tell by their broad shoulders and adam's apple. Most would be very ugly, but some of the bapoks are like SUPER Chio. OMG it's so sick. One had like plastic boobs almost spilling out of his clothes! One of my friend went high looking at those chio bapoks. I really wonder about his orientation now. Then as we drove for a second round to pick up other friends, we saw this uncle driving to a bapok, chatted awhile (probably asking for price) and the bapok hopped on! OMGGGGGG. Was that man so desperate that he opted for a bapok rather than those prostitutes from geylang? This is so sick!

Obvious Scam

When any PRC approached you on the streets asking if you speak Chinese, then promoting their stuff, 100% it is a scam. It's just so obvious. I was walking in Orchard MRT station today when there was this lady approached me asking if I am Singaporean and can speak Mandarin. After I said yes, she showed me her name card saying that they do advertising (probably a modeling agency called iModel). I asked her again what does her company does, she repeated that they do advertising for KFC, Macdonlds, etc and pestered me to give her my number and name. DUH! It's so fake that I could tell it right away that it is a scam! So I told her I'm not interested and walked away. Girls, beware of such model agency scams.

The story of Cupid and Psyche

I never knew there is a story of cupid until now.....

Envious and jealous of the beauty of a mortal girl named Psyche, Venus asks her son Cupid (known to the Greeks as Eros) to use his golden arrows to cause Psyche to fall in love with the vilest creature on earth. Cupid agrees, but then falls in love with Psyche on his own. When he leans over from a distance to kiss her, he causes one of his own arrows to fall forward, piercing him.

When all continue to admire and praise Psyche's beauty, but none desire her as a wife, Psyche's parents consult an oracle, which tells them to leave Psyche on the nearest mountain, for her beauty is so great that she is not meant for (mortal) man. Terrified, they have no choice but to follow the oracle's instructions. But then Zephyrus, the west wind, carries Psyche away to a fair valley and a magnificent palace where she is attended by invisible servants until night falls and in the darkness of night the promised bridegroom arrives and the marriage is consummated. Cupid visits her every night to sleep with her, but demands that she never lights any lamps, since he does not want her to know who he is.

Cupid allows Zephyrus to take Psyche back to her sisters and bring all three down to the palace during the day, but warns that Psyche should not listen to any argument that she should try to discover his true form. The two jealous sisters tell Psyche, then pregnant with Cupid's child, that rumor is that she had married a great and terrible serpent who would devour her and her unborn child when the time came for it to be fed. They urge Psyche to conceal a knife and oil lamp in the bedchamber, to wait till her husband was asleep, and then to light the lamp and slay him at once if it is as they said. Psyche sadly follows their advice. In the light of the lamp Psyche recognizes the fair form on the bed as the god Cupid himself. However, she accidentally pricks herself with an arrow, and is consumed with desire for her husband. She begins to kiss him, but as she does, a drop of oil falls from her lamp onto Cupid's shoulder and wakes him. He flies away, and she falls from the window to the ground, sick at heart.

Psyche then finds herself in the city where one of her jealous elder sisters lives. She tells her what had happened, then tricks her sister into believing that Cupid has chosen her as a wife instead. She later meets her other sister and deceives her likewise. Each returns to the top of the peak and jumps down eagerly, but Zephyrus does not bear them and they fall to their deaths at the base of the mountain.

Psyche searches far and wide for her lover, finally stumbling into a temple where everything is in slovenly disarray. As Psyche is sorting and clearing, Ceres appears, but refuses any help beyond advising Psyche that she must call directly on Venus, the jealous shrew who caused all the problems in the first place. Psyche next calls on Juno in her temple, but Juno, superior as always, gives her the same advice. So Psyche finds a temple to Venus and enters it. Venus orders Psyche to separate all the grains in a large basket of mixed kinds before nightfall. An ant takes pity on Psyche and with its ant companions separates the grains for her.

Venus is outraged at her success and tells her to go to a field where golden sheep graze and get some golden wool. A river-god tells Psyche that the sheep are vicious and strong and will kill her, but if she waits until noontime, the sheep will go to the shade on the other side of the field and sleep; she can then pick the wool that sticks to the branches and bark of the trees. Venus next asks for water flowing from a cleft that is impossible for a mortal to attain and is also guarded by great serpents. This time an eagle performs the task for Psyche. Venus, outraged at Psyche's survival, claims that the stress of caring for her son, made depressed and ill as a result of Psyche's lack of faith, has caused her to lose some of her beauty. Psyche is to go to the Underworld and ask the queen of the Underworld to place a bit of her beauty in a box that Venus had given to Psyche. Psyche decides that the quickest way to the Underworld is to throw herself off some high place and die and so she climbs to the top of a tower. But the tower itself speaks to her and tells her the route that will allow her to enter the Underworld alive and return again, as well as telling her how to get past Cerberus by giving the three-headed dog a small cake; how to avoid other dangers on the way there and back; and most importantly, to eat nothing but coarse bread in the underworld, as eating anything else would trap her there forever. Psyche follows the orders precisely, rejecting all but bread while beneath the Earth.

However when Psyche has left the Underworld, she decides to open the box and take a little bit of the beauty for herself. Inside, she can see no beauty; instead an infernal sleep arises from the box and overcomes her. Cupid (Eros), who had forgiven Psyche, flies to her, wipes the sleep from her face, puts it back in the box, and sends her back on her way. Then Cupid flies to Mount Olympus and begs Jupiter (Zeus), to aid them. Jupiter calls a full and formal council of the gods and declares that it is his will that Cupid marry Psyche. Jupiter then has Psyche fetched to Mount Olympus, and gives her a drink made from Ambrosia, granting her immortality. Begrudgingly, Venus and Psyche forgive each other.

Psyche and Cupid's daughter was Voluptas or Delight, the goddess of "sensual pleasures", whose Latin name means "pleasure" or "bliss".

Writing Songs

I was going through my old recordings yesterday and I realised that I haven't been writing any new songs for a long, long time. I guess when the love is gone, the heart died along with it. Probably I didn't have anymore inspirations in my head to write anymore. Maybe someday........ when I find back the love that I lost.
