Overnight in Camp

Watched "Prison Break" with my campmates at 10 pm. Then laid my sleeping bag on the floor. Chat some jokes with friends before dozing off. However suddenly woke up at 3 am, 4 am, 5 am and finally at 6 am where we were preparing for our computer shoot in other camps. Came back tired after that. But work remains.. so can't go home. However it was easier than we anticipated. It's Friday!!

Sleep Deprivation II

Last post was talking about production levels vs sleep. So will our production level increase with less sleep? The answer is yes and no. Yes is well you are able to stretch your time and being able to work more. HOWEVER you will die without sleep.

If humans do not sleep for a certain period of time, the first 2 days maybe will be ok. After that, your thinking will slow down, disorientation will occur, you will get irritated easily and show some signs of violence. More commonly found, people who went without sleep for long periods of time will suffer from hallucinations and become paranoid. Soon you will not even able to count from 1 to 100 successfully. Luckily all this problems will disappear once you sleep to recharge. And you might sleep for days to compensate for the lost sleep. We call this sleep debt.

We'll talk about sleep debt in the next blog. So stay tuned!

Sleep Deprivation

Read an interesting book today called the "Sleep Thief".

Thomas Edison once thought that if a person is able to stay awake all day, the world's production will increase. Hence he invented the light bulb. From this small little invention, it has changed the world. People now are able to work in the night, work in shifts. No longer caveman we are where once darkness comes, we are required to sleep as we can't do any work.

But by sleeping less will our productivity increase? Will we able to live a fuller life?

The Host (Gwoemul)



Watched this Korean movie with Dexiang, Sean, Ruiming and SIm Bokguan at Bugis today. This is a good show. It's really quite funny at times during the show. Also some parts really gave me a scare.

The movie is about a mutant monster appearing in Korea suddenly attacking the public and some cases kidnapping some victims. Somehow the main lead's daughter was kidnapped and to make it worse, the US government thinks there's a virus outbreak going on and he's the HOST! A fugitive now, he must save his daughter and escape from the goverment before it's too late.

In this movie, although it's some action thriller, but it shows how just a simple mistake a govenment make can make it into a big disaster. And of course there's the conspiracy to cover up those mistakes. It's a good movie! Recommended!

LSCT Alumini Gathering 2006

Meet up with Ivy at the bus stop to go together and meet the rest of the gang at SIM bus stop. But we missed our bus! The bus left and while she was walking out of her home. So she suggested we take bus 66. Well ok we were not that late.
Then walked into the Ngee Ann Poly Alumini house. Wah looks so nice, like a country club. When we reached the function room, there was only a few persons. We were quite early! So we seated and talked crap till about 7 pm where people, lecturers and friends started to pour in. Finally can eat, so hungry. There were performances but no one bothered to look. Everyone was busy catching up with each other and also with our past lecturers. Took some group photos too.
About 9.30 pm, we left to go Wala Wala in Holland Village. It's been quite a since the last time I been there. Yeh back to listen to the UnXpected perform again! I think it's a good move to make the pub a non-smoking area. The air is so much cleaner and my shirt doesn't stink of cigarette. At first we sat too close to the speaker. So when Shirlyn sang at her loudest, my ears were going to break! Luckily we shifted to a better place where it's more comfortable for our ears. Great night of Music! Stayed through all her performances and left about 1+ am.

Ugly Singaporean

Today while taking the MRT, saw some really really Ugly Singaporean. Not as in beauty but as in their mannerism. As the train stopped at bugis. A mom and 2 of her sons, one which is about 6, the other about 14 years old ran into the super crowded train. Both the mom and the elder son is quite tall and lanky. Seems like they got on the train in time before the door closes. The mom was lugging a heavy computer casing while the elder son was holding...nothing. What's more he was complaining that the mom was so slow. I was quite shocked at the way the son say about his mother, what's more he should be the one carrying the casing instead of the mom carrying. I'm PISSED.
Well I was hearing them talking to each other. The mom was telling off her son that he suddenly ran off to the other door of the train to board and caused her to panic. Then the son rebuked that this side was less crowded and he want to find a place to sit. The mom scold her son that the casing she's holding is heavy, she can't run so fast. Somemore there's no seats in this cabin.
Then the son said something that really pissed me and also the rest of the cabin.

Son talking in Chinese: "Aiya, Singaporeans are all selfish. So we must snatch the seats before they do."

Upon hearing this, I feel like giving the son a really good punch in the face. And I'm just standing right beside him. What a fucker.... first he got the hands and legs (Chinese translation) to help his mom to carry the computer casing and I'm sure that it's his. Next he has the guts to say that he must snatch seats before anyone can. Now can you see who's the selfish one? The irony is that he's local. OMG what education did he receive to have this kind of selfish thinking. This kind of guy is a true "Ugly Singaporean". Too bad I dun have a camera phone or else I'll post his ugly picture here for all to condemn.

Reached my stop. Most of the people are getting off here, and before I left, saw the bastard quickly squeezing through the crowd just to put his ass on the seat.......and left his mom still standing........

IMF Meeting in Singapore 2006

Well Singapore is having a very BIG event in the month of September. It's the IMF meeting which is holding here in Singapore. Not sure how important it is, it's quite a big hoo haa here, with media keep filming about it's preparations towards the series of events. From the arrival of delegates at Changi Airport to personal chauffeurs in Mercedes to their hotel and the list goes on.

So what does IMF stands for?

It stands for International Monetary Fund.

What does it do?
The IMF promotes international monetary cooperation and provides policy advice and technical assistance to help countries build and maintain strong economies. The Fund also makes loans and helps countries devise policy programs to solve balance of payments problems-that is, situations where sufficient financing on affordable terms cannot be obtained to meet net international payments. IMF loans are relatively short-term, and funded mainly by the pool of quota contributions provided by its members. IMF staff are primarily economists with wide experience in macroeconomic and financial policies.

Ohhh so it's an international bank that loans money to countries that are going bankrupt. Well I don't study business so I don't have any knowledge of this kind.
So this event is coming, so what?
Well everyone will be very very busy, especially the security as to ensure that the delegates will feel safe and protected. The other busy party will be the tourism trade. Cause people all around the world will need a place to stay, plus most likely their family members will also be here. So more tourists, so more tourists = shopping + sight-seeing = $$ spend by them = $$ earn = revenue up. Which is a good thing for our economy. I'm sure more news about IMF 2006 will come.

Some interesting facts I found while reading the Singapore 2006 website:

-The most common Chinese family name in Singapore is Tan, followed by Lim, Lee and Ng. [Tan ah Kaow , Tan Ah Mao, Tan Gu Gu (wait long long)..]

-The Bukit Timah Nature Reserve in Singapore contains more species of plants than the entire North American continent. [All I know there's bloody lots of monkeys who keeps stealing our food]

-The world's highest man-made waterfall (30m) is located in Singapore at the Jurong BirdPark. The largest fountain recorded in the Guinness Book of Records is located in Singapore at Suntec City. [Feng Shui rocks!]

-Singapore's Kandang Kerbau Maternity Hospital entered the Guinness Book of Records in 1966 for having 39,835 deliveries in a year. [Hey that's where I was born!]

Army Half-marathon 2006

5 am in the morning. The sky is still dark and the citizens are still sleeping. There's no sign of the first rays of the sun. Yet Hundreds of people gathered at the starting point of the 21.1 km run at the Esplanade. Ready! Go! Every military personnels and participating civilians started their 21.1 km run. It's a start. 21 km more to go...

Ran and ran with Dexiang all the way. From the Esplande drive to Shenton way... wah 1 km only! Soon we hit the Benjamin sheares bridge. 3 km. Along the way every 2 km there's water points for thirsty runners to drink up to prevent dehydration. Everyone was drinking and running at the same time. As time goes by, there's a lot of used styrofoam cups on the road. It's really A LOT. Starting to get tired. Reached East Coast Park. Which I think is 5-7 km already. It's a really long run, when you thought that you already ran like 5 km already when your actually distance covered is 2 km only.
Almost half way reaching 10 km which is the Nicoll Highway. Dexiang starts to tyre puncture liao. Hahaa walking for a distance then running again. Ran passed Orchard road to Outram road. Getting near.
Finally, reaching the finish point 1 km to go! Wah kept jogging all the way already. Wanna finish this torturing run. Finally crossed the Finish Line!! With legs soring and painfully abrasion at the thighs and chest. Ouch!

Yah and got this medal for finishing within some time limit.

How many Planets we have?

It's official. Pluto is no longer called a planet. Although Astronomers around the world have come together in the International Astronomical Union (IAU) meeting to debate on this issue, only a few participated in the voting of stating Pluto's fate as a planet. Somehow, I guess many are still unsure whether to define Pluto as a planet or just a rock. Tsk.

Hello Kitty is everywhere.

Shagged. Came back at 12+ from yesterday's activation excercise. Was there running and shouting as to marshall the forking of ammo. Shall not talk much about it. But it's my first time being treated like a VIP on the road where there's the provost unit escorting us to our destination. Just on the expressway, all cars have to stop just to let us pass and most of the lane is ours! No cars are suppose to cut into our lanes or else they will booked by the police. What's more we can beat the red light LEGALLY. HAha feels so good. My good camp friend "Xiao Pan" is just so funny. Can never let him do marshalling. I guess he's more pro in fingering? lol.

Singapore Fireworks Festival (Final)
12 Aug 06

HA! Today went down to Marina again for another photo taking session. This time went down with Neil as I'm also passing him a camera for loan to him as he's going to South Africa. Today was the MOST crowded of all. I guess half of Singapore's population is here to watch the fireworks. City Hall: Packed, Marina Centre: Packed, Esplanade: WORST. 9pm Fireworks!

After the Fireworks, going home was another nightmare. Totally packed to the MAX in the city. Traffic jams, human jams. Yeah. Reached home at 11 pm.

Went to the Benjamin Sheares Bridge today to take more pictures. Supposed to meet Crux and her bf, Max, there but spent more than 1 hr walking up and down the bridge cause there were so many different highways leading to different areas! Finally with met up with her at a recognisable place and went up to the correct bridge. Actually this year's NDP fireworks is just nothing special. It ended quickly at 8.30pm. Quickly packed and went for our dinner at BK.

Singapore Fireworks Festival 2006 (Singapore Team)
Saturday 8 Aug

Went down to Marina Bay to capture some of this year's Fireworks festival Shooting. This time I was really near the fireworks and Wow! It's a different experience from the last shooting! Can really feel the excitement of the fireworks! [Warning: Picture Intensive]

Reached the Esplanade at about 8 pm. It's bloody crowded there! Packed full of people. I had to squeeze and elbow some idiots who stood there blocking the traffic while trying to find a good location for the photo shoot. Finally found a nice quiet area where there is less people and the view is just directly opposite the shooting point. Set up my tripod and camera and took some shots.

After the shooting had ended. Joined Alvin Oh, Wilson, Simon and Ruiming for some beer at Brewerkz located at Riverside point. OH! Saw Malaysian singer Fish Leong there! Too bad she left before I had a chance to take a photo with her.

Played some brain killing matchstick puzzles and beers before heading home at 3 am. Tired!

Everyone's going to University this August, really almost everyone in my batch. Well I guess the only NSF remaining are Neil, me and Eugene. The rest have their Pink ICs! Congrats ya. It will be a great time to collect feedbacks from this guys abt University life before I ORD. Haha I'll be joining you guys soon next year!

Did my driving... and PASSED!!! Woo Hoo! One goal achieved after monthes of driving lessons! Yay!

Tomorrow will be my driving test.. wish me luck.

Driving lessons today.. not bad a day. My video card suddenly spoil when I switched on my computer after I came back. First time showed some error msg. THen halfway the monitor turned blank. Shucks! Wanted to stay at home, in the end accompanied my family to Sim Lim Square as my mom wanted to buy a laptop. Of course I bought a new video card there also. Argh spend $$ again. luckily bought a good and cheap one. Few more days to go...

Today went to Sim Lim Tower recee for a contractor who can make some items for a stupid project. There's none that I can find! Basket... my IC bluff me again. Had a casual dinner with Yanru at Raffles Place today. Whahaha everytime meet her always got different hairstyles. This time she permed her hair, but can't see the difference. As she grows older become more 'Ai Mei' wor.. hahaha. Just doing abit of chatting before she heads for a meeting with her big boss. Ordered BBQ Stingray! Wah dunno how long never eat this dish already. After dinner, walked to the Esplanade to see if there's any concerts at the bay. Hey! It's The Great Spy Experiment playing tonight! Wooo great playing! The show ended at 9.30 pm, headed home after that.
