IMF Meeting in Singapore 2006

Well Singapore is having a very BIG event in the month of September. It's the IMF meeting which is holding here in Singapore. Not sure how important it is, it's quite a big hoo haa here, with media keep filming about it's preparations towards the series of events. From the arrival of delegates at Changi Airport to personal chauffeurs in Mercedes to their hotel and the list goes on.

So what does IMF stands for?

It stands for International Monetary Fund.

What does it do?
The IMF promotes international monetary cooperation and provides policy advice and technical assistance to help countries build and maintain strong economies. The Fund also makes loans and helps countries devise policy programs to solve balance of payments problems-that is, situations where sufficient financing on affordable terms cannot be obtained to meet net international payments. IMF loans are relatively short-term, and funded mainly by the pool of quota contributions provided by its members. IMF staff are primarily economists with wide experience in macroeconomic and financial policies.

Ohhh so it's an international bank that loans money to countries that are going bankrupt. Well I don't study business so I don't have any knowledge of this kind.
So this event is coming, so what?
Well everyone will be very very busy, especially the security as to ensure that the delegates will feel safe and protected. The other busy party will be the tourism trade. Cause people all around the world will need a place to stay, plus most likely their family members will also be here. So more tourists, so more tourists = shopping + sight-seeing = $$ spend by them = $$ earn = revenue up. Which is a good thing for our economy. I'm sure more news about IMF 2006 will come.

-The Bukit Timah Nature Reserve in Singapore contains more species of plants than the entire North American continent. [All I know there's bloody lots of monkeys who keeps stealing our food]

-The world's highest man-made waterfall (30m) is located in Singapore at the Jurong BirdPark. The largest fountain recorded in the Guinness Book of Records is located in Singapore at Suntec City. [Feng Shui rocks!]

-Singapore's Kandang Kerbau Maternity Hospital entered the Guinness Book of Records in 1966 for having 39,835 deliveries in a year. [Hey that's where I was born!]
