I didn't realize the power of being rich until I worked in OCBC. During that period, I have seen many influential and rich people. Their wealth was immeasurable. Some were nice people, some were bastards and bitches. That time I realized being rich is everything.
There was once during my working stint, I met a customer, a middle aged man who came to the bank to transfer his assets. He was dressed like a normal uncle except for his gold belt. Talked with him, he's a businessman and he shared his experienced with me on how he became the businessman he is today owning a multi-million dollar company. Munching on the refreshments, he chatted with me. He came back to Singapore to withdraw his CPF as he is now a citizen in Japan. He shared with me his past where he travelled to Japan to learn under a Japanese boss for many years. "Do you know who are the cleverest people?", he asked.
"I don't know." I replied.
"The Japanese are the cleverest people, he said. Though life was tough working for his boss, but his boss imparted valuable lessons and experience to him. The man said he believes learning is everything to succeed.
"Travel more and see the world, Singapore is too small. There are many things to learn outside. Work abroad if you can." he said.
During my work in OCBC, he was the customer that I clearly remembered. He was a person that has made an impact in my life. I regretted I didn't get his namecard. I wanted to work under him in the future..... hope to meet him again....

Triple Sharing Room Problems
There has been alot of commotion about NTU's decision to convert double rooms in hall to triple rooms making room space even more cramped than before. It also seems to compromise safety due to the design of the overhead bed and desk underneath. Many student has protested on this to the Student Union but they can't do anything to stop this. Anyway Unions don't have power in here. My friend has sent me a really funny clip that an NTU student is able to connect with. Very creative indeed! Enjoy.

Bad Luck
Lady luck isn't smiling at me for the Rat year. Attempts to earn some money resulted in a loss. Where had I gone wrong??!! Frustrated at my inability. I want to earn more! Not loss!

Gone missing in Semester Break
Can't find me during the school semester break? Well I took a trip back to Hong Kong! It was kind of a last minute decision as I realised I really have a one week break which I could go to my 2nd home. *wink*
Well other than Hong Kong, I managed to make a trip to Guangzhou thanks to lp. We joined a tour group to Guangzhou for some sightseeing. For abt 799 HKD. So took a tour bus to HK-China Border. After clearing the immigrations, we are in Shenzhen. Then took another bus to Guangzhou. It's a really LONG trip. About 3 hrs. In China, there's nothing much to see on the road. You'll see roads, cars, roads, more cars. Yep that's about it and the pollution is horrendous. You'll never see a clear sky as the whole place is covered in smog. First stop we reached some temple for some sightseeing.

Nothing much to see there. And ermmm the toilets are smelly. So went to contribute to mother nature. After the temple, took another long journey to eat 家菜 at some place where a famous chef lived in.

Great food there.

A picture with the famous chef.
Thereafter took another long bus ride (China is BIG isn't?) to some deserted fishing village. Really ulu.......

It's some village that is still being renovated as a tourist destination. I saw around the area they are busy planting flowers, planning to make it like a flower field. OK then next is the Sakura exhibition where it is the main attraction of the tour. Another few hours ride. Spent most of the time sleeping in the bus.
Finally at around near evening, we reached there. It's a big exhibition trying to imitate the Japanese Sakura viewing festival. They even have girls in Kimonos, distastefully dressed. They look more like prostitutes to me. Anyway who cares about the girls! It's the flowers that people are interested in! I have never seen sakura flowers before and this is the first time I saw them.

Well it was not as grand I imagined. The sakura trees are branches from the main tree chopped and planted in the soil. So if you were thinking of the Japanese kind of sakura appreciation, well you will be disappointed. Anyway they are kind of nice la. But going to Japan or Korea to see the actual tree is the best. As the weather is slighty warmer due to climate change, the temperature is not suitable for sakura. Most of them had fallen till the trees are bare.
Oh definitely you won't see people dancing Para para there.

Pink Sakura

Poor flowers....

White Sakura

Para Para Sakura!!
Well after a long day, time to rest for the night. Reached a 5 star hotel which is very grand inside! Nice.
Waited for the tour guide to get our rooms while we explored around the hotel.

Got our rooms and took the lift to the 15 floor where our room is. Spent some time figuring out how to get the door open. Once inside, I should say the room is really nice. The decor and design is very comforting!

The living room

As always need to check out the toilet. The design of the toilet is really fun with lots of connecting doors to play hide and seek.

The bed is really BIG. Much bigger than the one in Macau. Fluffy too!
Spend some time exploring the area outside in the night before returning late in the night to sleep.
The next day back to the bus and it brought us to some Art street where there you can find many cheap art pieces and almost replicas of famous paintings. I found "Mona Lisa" and "Sunflower" while walking around. That was the last stop and we head back ourselves to find cheap SPA in China. Had a good body and foot massage for a cheap price for 2 at about 300+ RMB. Cheap. After a good SPA, we returned back to HK by just walking.

JI Criminal Escaped Detention Centre
This is like straight out of a movie. This guy escaped when he's gone to the toilet in Singapore!!! Singapore has the highest security and they let a kuku escaped via the oldest trick in the book. How did he do it? By flushing himself into the toilet bowl?? That's quite a shocker when I heard saw it on the news this morning. Thanks to this guy, maybe many police and probably army will have to be called up again.

Dozing off in school
Don't know why there is always a sleepy spell during BS107. Once past the first 1hr, I'll be busy fighting the Z monster. Sometimes even knocking out without realizing it. Probably it's the long day. Need coffee soon.....

Singin' In The Rain (1957)
One of the very good classic films. It's a spoof on the first introduction of sound in movies.

Flower Exhibition at Sentosa
Went for the 2008 Flower Exhibition on Saturday. Initially we wanted to head there in the morning. But just for the few more winks, we went there in the afternoon which was scorching hot. There's quite alot of people going to Sentosa and there's a really long queue for the tram tickets to Sentosa. Luckily we went for the machine ticketing which was faster. Stopped at the Beach Station, walked the way to the flower exhibit in Imbiah Station. Some of the display were nice. Especially the roses ones.

Next flower exhibition in 2009!
After some sun tanning, brought lp to do what woman loves to do - SHOPPING! Ended up at Clarke Quay in the night for dinner. Wasn't that hungry but we tried this new eatery in Central. I guess it's more of a butchery than an eatery. But the steaks seems really cheap for rare meat.

They had Kobe beefs and Kurobuta porks which came from the US. Well the boss of the shop was really enthusiastic about promoting its meat.

It's menu of the day

More cuts

Ordered the Kurobuta pork collar which the boss explained to me which is one of the tender parts of the pig. The meat was tender with lots of fats in it. A bit too much fats for my taste but the meat was good. The fries were very crispy and they had cold mashed potato salad which is really good. The potato salad was a replacement cause they ran out of garlic breads but it's a good replacement. Too bad I don't eat beef, if not would have gone straight for the steaks.

After a light dinner went for a walk around Clarke Quay and lp got a really big turkish ice cream as a treat.

Help Someone to Kill Him
From someone's blog: "The client wasn't ready yet so we didn't go to client's office, thus, we didn't do much at all. ............. Well, I can say we nearly idled haha! Besides, I had lunch with .......... the one that I intended to write my post haha~ "
I would love to kill him someday. It's ok if you don't understand the above. It's a personal matter. KILL HIM!
Anyway today had breakfast with few of my classmates, and then visited my Vietnamese friend at the international fair who will be performing a dance, but was too late and missed it. Anyway Vietnam also have Chinese New Year celebration and their traditional clothes is somehow looks very similar to our Chinese traditional clothes. Anyway went to their booth and saw some of their Vietnamese stuff. Well I was offered a kind of dried black date. My friend took one too. Feeling curious what how does it taste like, I took a small bite. Suddenly after biting a bit of it, I saw one of my greatest nightmare. something while was wriggling the the fruit. MAGGOT!!!!! OMFG!! Quickly I spat out the small little nibble I took and threw the MAGGOT infested fruit away. OH MAN SO LUCKY! Rinsed my mouth with lots of water. I almost wanted to find Dettol to rinse. My friend said her's was fine. Hmm I wondered did she just ingested without knowing. Luckily I didn't pop the whole fruit into my mouth if not probably I would have rushed to the doctor for deworming pills.
Anyway tomorrow will be Chinese New Year Eve. So wish everyone Happy Lunar New Year!

Updates....
Well haven't been writing stuffs here these few days cause there's nothing interesting to write about, but well here are some updates!
Friday
Jas is back from the US! So there's some kind of gathering to meet up with her again. Seems quite fast since the last time she came back to Singapore for a short visit. This time she will be back working in Singapore. Well she had some problems with her MIO router which she cannot connect to the internet on her laptop, so Neil helped her to buy a router. By right the MIO modem should be a wireless router by itself. But somehow it didn't work. Anyway she showed some pictures of her visiting Puerto Rico. It's sure a nice place to relax, blue seas and nice rocks. But she said it's not really worth it, however, beautiful place. Ate dinner at some kopitiam around her house. Then back to her house for some chat before heading home.
Saturday
Nothing, not feeling well. Stayed at home.

STI Market Drops Today
ST Index is feeling the heat now from the recession in US. Yesterday STI was still doing quite well, however, today the index dropped significantly. Probably everyone was panicking today when stocks are falling rapidly. Some sell to cut losses, some grabbed the opportunity to buy at a discount price and hope for bullish market after the recession. Market was very unstable today and prices kept fluctuating up and down rapidly. Some of my stocks made some small loss today especially Aztech and Aqua Terra but I'm still holding them on till the bull. Qian Hu is still holding on. Bought more stocks today especially the good ones.

Mixed Up Day
Was pretty heated up in the morning as I called the Army asking my deferment status as I was called up for some briefing somewhere in this month. As I am a student now, I should not be called up for any reason, except when Singapore is being attacked. Anyway I called up in the morning asking for my status and explaining the situation. My call was being transferred from department to department like a prostitute until I FINALLY got to the right one after many transfers. I was pretty fired up already. Well luckily this recruit was able to settle the things I needed. I had already faxed my letter about 2 MONTHS ago. Probably they lost it the last time. As EXPECTED. I guess my oversight was that I didn't "ensure" that they got the document as the instruction given to me the last time was to fax it to camp. Bummer. Well at least this recruit is professional enough to settle this problem.

2008
2007 has gone. Now 2008 has arrived. Reflecting back to 2007, it's an ending of one phase of life to a new phase in Singapore.
March 2007

ORD lo, finally after 2 years of some fun, company and most of it is just plain waste of time and shit. After that wanted to get a job but could find one in the biotech industry as it was a period where demand for lab techs was low. Got a temporary job in OCBC which made me learn the importance of being rich and it's time to invest for your retirement. It also made me see the greedy side of some people that chanced upon the death of their relatives to vie for their fortunes. Although I had to work everyday without any rest, there's great company to make us go on working. Plus also, lp came and stayed which made me very happy.
June

The first time that I flew overseas alone to meet lp in Macau for a holiday. Booking the flight and hotel without a travel agent gives you much freedom.
August
Start of my life in University. I didn't like it. I miss her. I got into depression. I never told anyone this. I hate going to NTU cause it's so damn far plus it's the dragon's baby which makes it even worse during rush hour. Picked myself up later. I still don't like the distance.
November

Exams period but I still went to Lp's graduation. Everyone says I'm crazy. But I calculated there's enough time to study when I'm back. So booked a ticket and spent some time with her. My first time sleeping in her home.
December

Woo Hoo! Exams over! Had a dinner gathering at Leroy's new house which is beautiful though it's abit too far from any public transportation. Missed Neil's and Ewan's birthday again this year. Flew to Hong Kong to stay for a while, how I wish I can stay there forever.
January 2008

Going to start school again. 4 years being a poor student is really long. I want to work and earn enough so I could invest more and lead a good life with her. Being apart in different countries is a painful thing. Especially compared to her peers where everyone is already working and earning their fat paycheck, I'm lagging behind alot. I'll have to work harder to achieve the financial freedom I want and be with LP.

New Year Eve: The Venetian, Macau
Woke up early in the morning again, this time headed to a ferry terminal to take a ferry to Macau. Took the 9.30 am ferry. Arrived in Macau about 1 hour later. Thereafter there's the Venetian shuttle bus to the Hotel. It's kind of convenient now as there is a shuttle bus instead of having to find a transport ourselves. Again dumped our luggage there. There's really lots of people in the hotel that it feels like a shopping mall instead of a six-star hotel. Being hungry already, we have to hurry down to the famous Portuguese restaurant in Hac Sa 黑沙. This restaurant is immensely popular that if you are just slightly late, most probably you won't get a seat. We arrived on time and luckily there was still a table for us as the place is almost full. A few minutes later we would have to wait for a seat. The last time I was here, we ordered roasted ribs that was really good. This time I decided to go for their top dish which was roasted pig.

Very tasty. You get the crispy skin of the roast pig plus the succulent meat to satisfy your hungry for some pork meat. Highly recommend for those coming to Macau.

Yum yum.
Oh yes, did I forget to tell you that the Portuguese Egg Tart is a must have whenever you are near Hac Sa? Lowry's Bakery. Remember that. Went for egg tarts again as I never fail to have a craving for it whenever I'm in Macau.
After a good lunch, took bus 26A to 新马路 which where the 大三巴 is. Took a few christmas pictures there.

I got a fed up of people taking lousy shots of us so I decided to bring a tripod. It's a must for every overseas trip. For a clear shot, it's worth it.

In front of the church

This time managed to go inside to look at what artifacts in the church. Pretty uninteresting. There's even a crypt which I mistook it for the toilet! That's not the best place for you to take a piss.....

Outside 大三巴
Took bus 26A back to the Venetian to check in, as the venetian is sitting almost right in the middle of Cota Strip, it's quite convenient to take the public bus to the famous places. Oh and there seem to be no traffic lights for pedestrian crossing. It's just a zebra crossing, so it's either you cross or get banged by a car in China. Proceeded with checked in but the queue was long. Then some staff directed us to another checking counter which was across the GOD DAMN few football fields wide distance in the hotel. My girlfriend was really pissed, plus the counter told her that they did not have the room we booked. Lp gave them a good scolding till they finally got one room for us. This is the true face of a tigeress. Lp - 1, Venetian - 0. Come on, a six star hotel cannot even give us a decent service is not a six star hotel at all. It's more of a budget hotel service.

The hall

The hotel hall ceiling
Finally got our room so we could have a short rest. The room was really BIG.

The toilet with 2 personal sinks for each person

Nice bath tub!

Our Bed

The second lower floor

Lp's favorite spot

It's very spacious. There's even 2 televisions in the room. One at the bed, the other at the living space. There's also internet connection and a fax machine for working personnels.

After a short rest, walked out again to have dinner in Taipa 氹仔 area. Had Crab congee and fried frog legs.

Taste good. Especially there's the crab egg mixed in the congee

Frog legs. Nothing special other than it is deep fried.
After dinner, back to the Venetian for some shopping in the indoor shopping mall. The fake sky looks kind of nice. But still it's too fake. Oh the Gondola was nice as the boaters did really sing and they sang really well.

The Gondola, girls may gush at some cute ang mo guys

The fake sky

There was some festival going on for the countdown to New Year, but we were too tired to join in the festival. A nice warm bubble bath on New Year's Day was what we had. Ahhh so relaxing.....
