End 2008, Welcome 2009

The year 2008 will soon come to an end. 2008 year was a really bad year. There were ups and downs, but the downs really came crashing like the stock market. Let's see what are the events in 2008:


Beginning of the year was a joyous mood as we usher in the Chinese New Year. It was one of the happiest moment as she came to Singapore to spend the Chinese New Year with me. Finally showing her to my relatives my HK girlfriend.

Next was hotpot at Jasmine's house where we got to have hotpot at her place! Though not all the League was present but it was a great time to hang out together.

Feburary, was invited by Neil to attend the Airshow 2008 as he got some free tickets to the event. After so many years, I finally got the time and opportunity to go to the airshow. It was an eyeopener was we got to see the various air performance and especially the Black Knights. Plus you could see and hear the loud roaring of the plane's afterburners at such close range!


Feburary to March, had a vacation to Guangzhou with her for 2D1N. First time stepping into the other parts of China. And I was convinced that China's pollution level was way worse that I expected. The main event was the Sakura flowers, but a bit disappointing cause the flowers were all dying and dropping off due to the unexpected warmer weather. But I had fun in the hotel cause it was soooo luxurious for a cheap price. The room was so fun to play hide and seek too and the night was spend exploring outside the hotel and playing in the room.

Celebrated my birthday in Hong Kong with her family.

Back to Singapore, she came again in May for her study leave. Brought her to the Singapore flyer as a surprise event. One word - Romantic.

My first time having a high tea buffet. It was at Goodwood Park Hotel. The English tea buffet was definitely delicious. I had to book a table one week in advance for it especially for sundays and saturdays. Will come again for another high tea the next time.

In June, My first time going for overseas studies in Shanghai. Another visit to another part of China. It was a 3 weeks study, short but it was really fun. Made some great friends there and tried many many good food. Haha I didn't choose to stay in dorms in NTU, but in Shanghai I got the chance to stay in one. Damn nice staying in their overseas dorms. Didn't really study there, but played and played most of the night and visiting towns and interesting places. My gf made a short trip there to visit me and her friends. Really memorable! I LOVE THE FOOD IN SHANGHAI. Maybe another trip in 2010 when there will be the World Expo.


Back to HK on the last day of Shanghai, came back with a surprise welcome dinner by her. Cooked so deliciously and beautifully, I was a happy man with a full stomach. She hated to step into the kitchen but made this sacrifice for me. Loved her more than ever.

Went to Lamma island for some romantic dinner and hiking the next day. Nice and quiet place away from the noisy Hong Kong for a while.

Last day as a couple in HK. She came to Singapore in September to spend time together again. But in October, we can't go on anymore and I crashed. We could not make past the 2008 curse for all rats.

October, finally managed to catch the ever busy and elusive Akire for a gathering. Too bad still did not manage to catch Patsy. Been playing "Catch me if you can" with these girls for more than a year.

School work was damn hectic in Year 2. Plus got a really lazy and shitty group mate in one of our projects that made everyone of the group very pissed with her.


December, after a crazy semester and exams in Year 2. Took a break bringing my parents to HK for fun. I will be staying in HK till 2009. Also spending the last moment with her before back to singlehood.

After so many events, I really missed the good times. All it took was one word to kill it all. But I'll strive on, I'll strive on to my goal to be one of the richest man among the rich. I will go on.

Playing with colours

Today I found out why woman are so particular about their clothes and take such careful considerations in matching their clothes, bag, shoes. The truth is women can distinguish many different shades of colour with their eyes while men, can only see colours of black and white. I definitely have this problem of distinguishing colours of fashion as maybe the why I'm a disaster of fashion sense. But I learnt alot today.

Bedok 84

Went for dinner with some of my uni friends at Bedok 84. Is it called Sempang Bedok? Please enlighten me! It's basically a hawker centre where masses of people will gather together and order many many food such as sambal stingray, fried oyster, grilled chicken wings, etc. There's a stall which said to have very good bak chor mee. So I went to try it out. It's not your usual bak chor mee. It's soup based instead of dry. The noodles are so-so, the main draw are the meat balls which said to be hand made. $2.50 for 1 bowl. Hmmm not so used to a soup based bak chor mee.

It's better now, but still the pain is there. Well can't help it after such a long sweet relationship. Slowly I try to let go, but it's kind of difficult cause I still dream and think of you from time to time. I still care a lot for you, I hope you do to me also. I Miss You

It's been weeks since we parted. Though I have been better now, I still miss you sometimes. I even dreamt of you, spending happy times together, eating delicious food, spending time shopping with you. Waiting for you while you gleefully choose nice pairs of shoes, clothes and bags. I'll miss those times, cause I'll probably not going to have the chance to do it with you anymore. No more times of waiting happily for you at the airport, or eagerly getting pass the customs to see you waiting for me in Hongkong. Then hugging each other as we meet at the gate. I'll miss those times. No more hugging in bed as we slept, no more bed talks, no more kisses good nights. I'll miss those times. No more spending time to cook for you or buying icecream for you to see you licking happily like a little girl. I'll miss those times. No more traveling together to other parts of the world. We promised to go places like Cambodia, Nepal, Tibet, etc. We didn't get to fulfill it. Maybe, in the future, we'll get the chance again. Maybe, we'll be back again. I'll miss you.... again and again.

Nightmare

2 weeks ago, I had a nightmare. I dreamt that a cat bit my finger, and it bit hard and painfully. I woke up from the pain, feeling so scared. I Googled about my dream and it mentioned that something bad will happen, and someone will hurt me emotionally. I thought the bad omen was my school work. But I was wrong, I didn't expect that I was actually hurt emotionally by you. But I'll pick up myself one day and let's still be friends.

Food Glorious Food

Whenever you are in Shanghai, there are some of the food you must try in Shanghai: Xiao long baos, Tang Baos, Xiao Yang Sheng Jian, La Mien, Desserts, simple meal of delicious food.
These are found almost everywhere, but I'll put here some of the best I ever tasted and found. They are not in order cause all of them are delicious!


老鸭粉丝汤
This is found somewhere near the lu xun's museum, at some roadside stall, but it is the best I ate. Inside is vermicelli with duck's innards, the soup taste great!


Egg roll
Found at a stall just outside Shanghai University. It's my everyday morning breakfast. Delicious pancake egg roll with some salad and your choice of meat in it like sausage, crabsticks or turkey meat. YUMMY!


Meal of various dishes
Located at an eatery near Shanghai University. Serves a variety of food like Gong Bao chicken, Gu lu yuk etc. Best of all, free flow of rice which is good for rice monsters! Cheap too!


Rice dish
Found also on another eatery near Shanghai University. Very interesting as it is served on a plate that looks like dog plate. But delicious and cheap!


Kung Fu Fast Food
This is very interesting as it is Chinese fast food! It boast itself to be healthy fast food as it serves chinese dishes and soup instead of burgers and their food are all steamed. Nice.


小吃街
Well this is not food but it's a street that has many delicious snacks and street food. I forgot where is the exact location but you can get there by the train and just a 5 min walk.


The signboard tells it all about the food, it's located in food street which serves....

Fried dumplings
But don't let these balls fool you. These are BIG and YUMMY. Served on a plate of 4, one bite of it and inside the soup will flow into your mouth. Super delicious which is why the long queue. And most of the time, it's so delicious that 4 is not enough. 1 person can eat up to 12 of them even though they are so HUGE!

These delicious baos are small but filled with yummy soup that you'll just keep eating and eating. One shop sells this delicious baos.

Muslim La mien
I was surprised to find a muslim stall in Shanghai and guess what? They are all Chinese! Yup, they have the certification of halal and they wear the traditional muslim clothes but they speak chinese. Kind of weird. But their noodles are nice and friendly people. Located in a few streets away near Shanghai University.

Shanghai Nights

OK I guess I have a little time today to update my blog. (Hurray!) I'm kind of missing the times in Shanghai especially the food. So sharing to you about some more photos about shanghai.

One of the beautiful things about shanghai is the night life. Well I don't mean clubbing, although clubbing is said to be great in Shanghai, but I did not go clubbing there cause well, got gf already so no more clubbing nights. So, during the free time after sun down, my friends and I decided to go out for some good dinner and explore the night Shanghai. We took the subway and we saw this:
The station had no doors! That's pretty scary as you could just push someone while the train is approaching. We got on the train and it was very similar to our MRT, probably because most of Shanghai's infrastructure is based on Singapore design. Just that most of the time, it has a stinky smell. Peak periods is packed full of people and you do really need to fight your way in or out. Forget about courtesy during the peak period, do what China do. It's really fun pushing your way through.

We got to the Shanghai's central area, People's Square for a simple but delicious meal of noodles. Then we walked around till we reached part of old Shanghai. Beautiful lights!
It's like orchard road here with many people walking for dinner or shopping.
People here have their dinner real early at about 6 pm, so some of the more famous eateries have their food sold out even before their closing time of 9 pm.

Finally our last stop is The Bund which is the iconic postcard of Shanghai, the view of the city opposite the sea. Nice. It's kind of like the Victoria Harbour of Hong Kong. The buiilding on the left is the tallest building in Shanghai.

Iphone out in Singapore

In one week I think you can find 1 of 10 Singaporeans holding a 3.5G iphone on the streets. Reviews say there are problems that disappoint users, but well people don't care as it is the hippest thing in town now! Singtel will be busy counting their money. Look at the crowd!

BUSY!!!

Somehow work is piling up on me in 2nd semester. Lectures are crazy covering so many chapters! WTF. I think we need more than 24 hours to finish up studying, assignments and tutorials!

Long time no Blog

The Dark Knight

Watch this film on the opening night of Thursday and I would say it doesn't dissappoint and far exceeded my expectations. It's truly the definitive sequel to "Batman Begins". This time they introduced two new villians: The Joker and Two-face.
The joker, Batman's arch nemesis really shines in this film as he's the main psychotic bad guy here and he truly wreaks havoc in Gotham city. No one can really stop him.
I always liked Tim Burton's Batman, the rest were hollywood craps. However, Christopher Nolan's film has replaced my number 1 spot for Batman movie. The greatest Batman film ever. It's even darker and even scarier than before. Definitely a must watch film. And do watch "Batman Begins" to understand the characters before watching this film as they do not do any reintroducing of characters again.

Ratings: 10/10. Perfect.

6 Lessons of Management

Lesson 1:

A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings.

The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs.

When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbour.

Before she says a word, Bob says, 'I'll give you $800 to drop that towel.'

After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob, after a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves.

The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs.

When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, 'Who was that?'

'It was Bob the next door neighbour,' she replies.

'Great,' the husband says, 'did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?'

Moral of the story:

If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

A priest offered a Nun a lift.

She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg.

The priest nearly had an accident.

After controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg.

The priest removed his hand. But, changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again.
The nun once again said, 'Father, remember Psalm 129?'

The priest apologized 'Sorry sister but the flesh is weak.'

Arriving at the convent, the nun sighed heavily and went on her way.

On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129. It said, 'Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory.'

Moral of the story:
If you are not well informed in your job, you might miss a great opportunity.

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp.

They rub it and a Genie comes out.

Puff! She's gone.

'Me next! Me next!' says the sales rep. 'I want to be in Hawaii , relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.'

Puff! He's gone.

'OK, you're up,' the Genie says to the manager.
The manager says, 'I want those two back in the office after lunch.'
Moral of the story:
Always let your boss have the first say.

Lesson 4

An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing.

A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, 'Can I also sit like you and do nothing?'
The eagle answered: 'Sure, why not.'

So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.
Moral of the story:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Lesson 5

A turkey was chatting with a bull.

'I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree' sighed the turkey, 'but I haven't got the energy.'
'Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?' replied the bull. They're packed with nutrients.'

The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree.

The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch.

Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree.

He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the story:
Bull **** might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there..

Lesson 6

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field.

While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.

As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was.

The dung was actually thawing him out!

He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.
A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate.

Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Morals of the story:
(1) Not everyone who ****s on you is your enemy.

(2) Not everyone who gets you out of **** is your
friend.

(3) And when you're in deep ****, it's best to keep
your mouth shut!

Cooking Dinner

Lp cooking dinner for me on Sunday night. Chinese food was the theme of the night. On the menu was Singapore fried bee hoon, stir-fried beanstalk, "gu lu yuk" and wintermelon soup. Well her first time cooking and it was not bad. Thumbs up!

Shanghai Day 1

Well it's good to be back to HK since I can finally get to blog. China has banned blogspots and Xanga so no access to them for 3 weeks. Shanghai entry is long overdue! On the first of June, I flew from Shenzhen to Shanghai taking Shenzhen Airlines. Cost me about $100 which is real cheap as there's food included in it. The flight is about 2 hrs and I touched down in Pudong, Shanghai.

The weather is cool there like aircon. Luckily it's not that hot. Then waited at the airport for the rest of the people to arrive. Waited for almost more than 3 hrs for the rest of the Singaporeans cause they got lost in the airport! Nevermind, finally we found them and checked into our international hostel in Shanghai University. Wow, it's like a budget hotel! Cool! Totally different from the standard of NTU hostels. Cause you got your own bathroom, aircon and even TV.

After checking in and having a short rest, we were given a short orientation of the school and time to buy our groceries in a supermarket at a shopping centre nearby. The things sold in China is damn cheap! Wa lao, 4 packs of big tissue paper costs only about $2 sing! While walking back to the hostel, guess what I saw? Condom dispenser! It's everywhere in the streets.


The next day we had an opening speech and short lecture on Shanghai.

Thereafter we were brought to several places in Shangahi like Xin Tian Di and Yu Garden
